Cultivation fields
The area of cotton plantations in Azerbaijan has shown steady growth in recent years. State support, subsidies, and the application of modern agrotechnical methods have facilitated the expansion of cultivation.
General indicators
Since 2015, special attention has been given to cotton cultivation, and the plantation area has increased from 50,000 hectares to 100,000 hectares. In subsequent years, this figure approached 200,000 hectares, reaching a record level.
Planting by regions
The largest cotton plantation areas are concentrated in the following districts:
- Saatly, Sabirabad, Imishli, Bilasuvar – Aran region
- Barda, Aghjabadi, Tartar – Karabakh region
- Yevlakh, Goranboy – Ganja-Gazakh region
In these districts, the climate conditions and soils are more suitable for cotton cultivation.”
Soil resources
For efficient management of plantation areas, soils are planned according to crop rotation. This helps both productivity and the long-term fertility of the soil.
Statistical trends
Recent statistics show that, along with the increase in cotton plantation areas, the average yield is also rising. This is related both to the application of technology and the use of new varieties.
Strategic importance
The expansion of plantation areas is important not only for agricultural income but also for increasing export potential. Azerbaijan is currently approaching the leading cotton producers in the regional market.
