Irrigation and water efficiency
The productivity and quality of cotton crop directly depend on the proper use of water resources. Irrigation determines not only the quantity of the crop, but also the quality of the fiber. Therefore, the Azerbaijan Cotton Producers Association (ACPA) promotes modern and efficient irrigation methods among farmers.
Modern irrigation technologies and water efficiency in cotton farming
Modern irrigation technologies ensure more efficient use of water resources in cotton farming. With drip irrigation, water is delivered directly to the root zone of the plant, minimising waste. Sprinkler systems help maintain uniform soil moisture and also prevent erosion. Smart sensor technologies enable the preparation of optimal irrigation schedules based on soil moisture indicators.
The benefits of water efficiency are significant from both an economic and environmental perspective. Reducing water loss optimizes farmers' costs, increases productivity, and enables them to earn a more stable income. At the same time, this approach serves to protect natural resources.
Although Azerbaijan’s potential has not yet been fully realised, there is great scope for the adoption of modern irrigation systems. In many regions, these technologies are being introduced gradually. ACPA supports these processes and plans their wider implementation in the coming years.
Support for farmers ACPA regularly organizes technical trainings, provides practical recommendations, and implements pilot projects. The goal is to achieve higher yields with the same amount of water, strengthen sustainability in agriculture, and promote more environmentally responsible practices among farmers.
