Cotton value chain
Cotton production is not limited to planting and harvesting – the value of the product is formed along the entire value chain. This process extends from agriculture to industry and from industry to the international market.
Planting and cultivation
The first stage of the value chain is soil preparation, seed sowing, and agrotechnical care. This stage is one of the key factors determining the quality of the product.
Harvesting
Unlike traditional hand harvesting, mechanical harvesting is now widely used in Azerbaijan. This optimizes both time and costs.
Processing stage
Collected cotton is processed at cleaning and linter processing plants, where the seeds are separated to obtain high-quality fiber.
Textile industry
Cotton fibers are the main raw material for yarn, fabric, and ready-made garment production. Azerbaijani cotton holds a particularly strong position in yarn and fabric manufacturing.
Export and market access
The final stage of the value chain is the export of cotton and its products to foreign markets. This provides both a source of income and employment opportunities for the country.
