Azerbaijani cotton varieties
In Azerbaijan, various local and international cotton varieties have been tested for many years. The goal is to achieve both high productivity and fiber quality preservation.
Main varieties
The currently widespread varieties include the following:
- BA-1010 – distinguished by high productivity.
- Lazer – suitable for export due to fiber length and cleanliness.
- Fiona – known for disease resistance.
- Delta-21 – has early maturation characteristics.
- X-37 – provides a competitive advantage in the textile industry.
- Turan-1 – a variety adapted to local climate conditions.
Yield and quality
The productivity of these varieties ranges between 40–50 centners per hectare. Their fiber length and strength meet international standards.
Regional adaptation
Different varieties are adapted to the climate and soil conditions of Azerbaijan’s cotton-growing regions. This provides farmers with the opportunity for stable income.
Research support
ACPA and agricultural institutes support the development and testing of new, innovative cotton varieties.
Export advantages
The cleanliness and fiber length of Azerbaijani varieties enhance their competitiveness in the Turkish, Chinese, and European markets.
